4,000 beagles will be rescued from a research center in Virginia, USA.
The beagles were used for breeding.
4,000 beagles will be rescued thanks to an undercover investigation made by PETA, an action that paved the way for this rescue and close the center where animal exploitation was the order of the day.
Inspections of Envigo were carried out for nine months and they discovered the death of some 300 puppies in an estimated time of 18 months (an average of 17 dead puppies per month). The inspection could not find the cause of the strange deaths, but assured that the institution did not take measures to investigate in a timely manner and avoid similar situations that put the lives of the animals at risk.
A federal judge ordered that the dogs be turned over to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) who will handle them over to non-profit associations across the United States so they can be adopted. In addition to the seizure of the beagles, Envigo’s parent company, Inotiv, Inc., will be permanently close the facility in the city of Cumberland, Virginia.

Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, senators from the state of Virginia where the events occurred, said they are pleased to know that the investigation paid off and that the beagles will no longer suffer from the terrible overcrowding conditions. In addition, they will continue working to prevent animal abuse in the state and the country.
